Advent: The Season of Hope!

The Advent/Christmas season is upon us.  It is a busy time, but here are some activities to enhance the season.

  • “An Unlikely Advent:  Extraordinary People of the Christmas Story” will be our Advent Bible Study this year.  This study takes a close look at some of the unlikely people we encounter in the stories about Jesus’ birth, including Elizabeth & Zechariah and Herod the Great.  There will be four sessions, beginning Tuesday, November 28th, at 10:30 a.m.  Study books are $13.00; if you can contribute to the cost of the books, that’s great. The books are available on the Round Table.   If you have any questions, speak to Susan Goe.  Hope you can join us!
  • Hanging of the Greens – The Worship Team invites you to join them to decorate the sanctuary for Advent/Christmas on Saturday, December 2nd, at 10:00 a.m.  Many hands make for light work!
  • CAMP CHRISTMAS at Ganado Presbyterian Church!  Camp Christmas at our sister church in Ganado is a long-time tradition of the church.  Mingus View has partnered with them over the years to provide the items that they can distribute to their community at the holidays.  Most needed items are blankets; warm coats, hats, mittens, etc. – new or gently used; and personal care items (toothbrushes, paste, etc.) or cash for the Mission Team to purchase items for the gift bags.  Boxes are located in the church foyer to accept your donations, for which we are grateful!  Deadline for donations is December 17th!
  • Mountain Valley Elementary School continues to be indebted to Mingus View for all our donations for the school nurse. Some new requests that we know you will continue to support: 5-T Pull-ups, feminine hygiene products, food snacks (like granola bars, small bottles of water, kids’ Benadryl, Size 6 Boys Jogger Pants (sweat pants), Sizes 6-8 Girls Pants, Sweatshirts any size for boys and girls (especially size 10). Thank you SO much for your faithfulness in supporting this mission!
  • Advent Devotionals – Devotional booklets will be available next Sunday.
  • Christmas Dedications — If you wish to make a memorial or honorary dedication in celebration of the birth of the Christ Child, please use the envelopes in the pews.  Deadline is December 17th .  Any small gift you make will benefit the general fund and is in lieu of “buying” a Poinsettia.  The list of dedications will be in the bulletin on December 24th.
  • Christmas Joy Offering — The Mission & Stewardship Committee invites you to participate in the annual “Christmas Joy Offering”, a special offering of the Presbyterian Church (USA).    Envelopes may be found in the pews.
  • Christmas Eve Candlelight Service – invite your family and friends to the Candlelight Service on Christmas Eve, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
